Welcome
Welcome to another long-awaited issue of Pixelate. It took two months to compile this issue, and I've realised a few things, but more about this later. First things first, the Pixelate website won an award!! Check it out:

We are very proud of this achievement.
The past two months went by very fast, but they weren't easy. I had tons of university work to do. It was my birthday (13 August), so thanks to all those who sent me birthday wishes. I'm trying to maintain a social life and a girlfriend. To make sure that all the future issues of Pixelate are on time, the following system will be put in place:
- Pixelate will be released every two months. If I receive more than five articles in the first month (this doesn't include the regular columns), and I have enough time, then a special edition will be released between the two issues.
- I'm working on some templates and submission formats which will make everything a bit easier for me. Some readers are also working together to make article submission and approval easier.
- The deadline for each issue will be a month after it has been released. Sometimes the new issue of Pixelate is finished, but then I get articles after the deadline and I try to put them into the current issue. From now on, all articles received after the deadline will be deferred into the following issues.
- The best thing to do is be patient with me. I really enjoy doing this and I want to keep on doing it. Unfortunately I don't get paid for this, and I have other responsibilities. If you enjoy Pixelate then please be patient. I think I have proved that Pixelate just gets better every issue.
If you have any more comments, flames, ideas or anything else Pixelate-related, then please let us know at pixelate@allegro.cc.
What's New
We have a lot of new goodies for this issue, including the following:
And a lot of high-quality articles from our writers team. If you want to join this team then let us know at pixelate@allegro.cc.
Pixelate Requests
As always, we are looking for articles from people all over the world. We are also looking for the following:
- Graphics - if you have cool game art, conceptual art, or screenshots of your latest games, then please send them to us. We are looking for art to give the magazine some colour and to offer exposure to all the artists out there.
- Banners and logos - lots of people have asked for an animated banner and/or a logo which they could put on their site to give exposure to Pixelate. Unfortunately we don't have any good artists here at Pixelate (at least, I don't think so...) If you can design some cool logos and banners, we will make them available. This will also give you, the artist, some exposure.
- Prizes for our competitions - everybody enjoys these competitions, but they would be a lot more enjoyable and attract more people if we had some prizes for our competitions. If you can sponsor or donate some prizes then please let us know at pixelate@allegro.cc.
Next issue...
We have some great articles for our next issue, including an excellent mathematics tutorial by Shade, Part II of our "Still Trying to Learn the STL" series and much more.
Things to remember!
Please remember the following deadlines:
Articles for Issue #6: 5 October 2001
Entries for our Competition: 5 October 2001
Conclusion
A lot of work went into this issue and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed making it.
Enjoy It!
Tom Van den Bon - Pixelate Editor
P.S. at the time of writing, the pixelate@allegro.cc addy is not functional. If you have any problems sending to that e-mail address, then please try thagrudge@yahoo.com. Sorry for the inconvience.
